There is a smell of roses in the air. Maybe a bit of dust. In the darkness you see a woman. Her dress grows along the floor, she engulfs the whole room and you. THE POTENTIAL OF MELANCHOLY is a gesamtkunstwerk – a hybrid between concert and performance. The music is fragilely honest giving room to listen to every vibrating tune. If melancholy is the longing for the unknown, it is the sister of revolution, mother of our future.
THE POTENTIALS OF MELANCHONY is an answer to an Open Call Sort/Hvid sent out in corporation with the publisher Gyldendal and the concert venue Alice. In the fall 2022 we chose four texts and asked for artistic contributions on how literature can become music theatre. Inspired by the poetry collection Digte 2014 by author Theis Ørntoft, the performance tells a story of a man and a world in crisis.
ABOUT BONA FIDE
The gothic folk duo Bona Fide has two members – Sophia Luna on vocals and Emil Palme on guitar. They create intimate songs about longing and magic. For this performance they bring a full band. Their debut in 2020 was the album Yield which was recorded exclusively on mobile phones. A dystopian record about the collapse of the earth captured through modern technology like a fossil of the future. Since then, they have published the album LORE (2022) and played at, amongst others, the festival SXSW in Texas, USA.
