I am also Somalia

Moeisha is from Somalia, lives in Vesterbro and is an interpreter. Bashir is also from Somalia, he is a singer and grew up in Vollsmose. Together they take us on a journey back to The National Theatre of Somalia.

Here Maryam Mursal was a star before the civil war broke out. As a singer she was part of the socialist state education project in the new independent stata. And this took place through musical performances (riwaayad).

What became of Maryam and the other stars from the theatre? What became of The National Theatre? And what is riwaayad?

We follow the traces of these times and the hunt leads us far around to Vollmose, London and Mogadishu.

We meet ghosts, the toughest Italian and British colonialists and fiercest freedom fighters. And we find fascinating Somali jazz, Afro hair, a special camel and proud artists with something at stake.

I AM ALSO SOMALIA entertains and educates you for your own good!
