KLUB KREATUR: VAGINA DENTATA
TicketsShe calls herself Vagina Dentata. Latin for “Cunt With Teeth”; A Freudian term for the fear of the wild, untamed woman. The actor, composer and singer Iza Mortag Freund is the woman behind the stage persona. She is now going to take over KLUB KREATUR at on the 19th of December.
For four days, Vagina Dentata works on her new solo piece Tabula Rasa. With her, she has her theremin – the world’s first electronic instrument, characterized by the way that sound is created via the musician’s movements without ever touching the instrument. Vagina Dentata invites you into her artistic laboratory at KLUB KREATUR: an artistic piece that will be a hybrid of installation, performance and concert.
Tabula Rasa emerges in an interaction with the performance space. At first the room appears bare, but slowly a transformation takes place. Every movement and every sound contributes to the constant change. Instrument, vocal and diegetic sound morph together with Vagina Dentata’s expressive movements. Fragmented words turn into a song-monologue. Movements into images and stories about the corners of the human mind and psyche. For a split second we notice the audience’s steps, which turn into rhythm, our breath enters the soundscape, Vagina Dentata’s pulse rises to an overture. Fragment by fragment, a collage of sound and visual images is built, eventually revealing an entire symphony. A performative piece of music that is created in the present. A piece that seeks closer to what it means to be a human.
Iza Mortag Freund is difficult to put into just one box. As a multidisciplinary avant-garde artist, she has occupied underground clubs, art galleries, music stages and theaters at home and internationally. She has played at Roskilde, composed and performed at Schaubühne in Berlin, was one half of the art-rock duo “The Echo Vamper” and traveled the world with her own solo performances as Vagina Dentata.

Come and have a drink with us and look behind the musical art that we create here in the old slaughter house. At KLUB KREATUR working artists open their laboratories and show the raw, crisp art while it is being created. It is a one-off performative experiment that only happen that one evening.
